Essendon premiership player, Gary O'Donnell, has accepted an offer as assistant coach, focusing on all defensive aspects of the game, in Matthew Knights' new coaching department.
O'Donnell, who has been an assistant coach with the Bombers for the past three years, said he was excited about the 2008 season and looking forward to working with Knights.
""It's definitely going to be different to what we have known for a long time. Sheeds made his mark and we all hope that Matty will as well,"" he said.
""He has only been in the job for about a week but it seems like a month with all the hard work he had already done.""
As has been announced previously on this website, O'Donnell's fellow assistant coaches Gary Ayres and Dean Wallis will pursue new opportunities in football in 2008.
The future of a number of key Bomber players have been secured with Andrew Lovett, Andrew Welsh, Nathan Lovett-Murray, Jay Nash, Jay Neagle and Sam Lonergan signing new contracts in the past month.
