Browne has played the last two games of the season at AFL level after an impressive season for Bendigo in the VFL.
Drafted at pick 48 in the 2010 draft, the 20-year-oldhas played five games since making his debut in round 11, 2011 against Melbourne.
Essendon General Manager of Football Operations Paul Hamilton said Browne had proven himself as a strong bodied midfielder who uses the ball well by hand and foot.
“He can take the game on, use the ball, run with it and he has some exciting attributes so we think with another big pre-season in 2013 should be a big one for him,” Hamilton said.
“He is playing senior football in his second year and I think all our supporters have seen first hand some of his capabilities and strengths.”
Steinberg is yet to debut at AFL level but has had a solid season playing for Bendigo in the VFL.
He was drafted from Mildura at pick 31 in the 2010 draft as an exciting forward but has been moved into defencethis season.
Hamilton said the club believes Steinberg has plenty to offer.
“We have given him another year for him to show us what he can deliver.”
“We believe he has a real lot of upside and we are keen to get a full pre-season into him and activate a lot of the potential we believe he has.”
