Of those who entered teams, 509 named Lucas at centre half back compared with 141 who selected him at centre half forward. There were no surprises with Matthew Lloyd and Dustin Fletcher's selections. The two bookends received the highest number of votes for the one position. 674 fans named Lloyd at full-forward and 687 put Fletcher in at full-back.
A surprise prediction was Matthew Allan in the ruck. Despite 2004 being his first season with the Bombers' 381 fans named him as the number one ruckman. David Hille closely followed with 344 votes, but his preferred position by fans was the forward pocket.
Veteran Mark Mercuri was named on the bench with new recruit Justin Murphy, Damien Peverill and Marc Bullen.

Port Adelaide has had Essendon’s measure for the past four years. The Bombers have not beaten Port since Round 2, 2001. The teams have met on six occasions since then and Port has taken the points each time. Last Sunday it was a one-sided affair with Port recording its best ever win against the Bombers.
