Twenty-three year-old Essendon key position prospect, Courtney Johns, has been placed on the long-term injury list after rupturing his left anterior cruciate ligament last month. Johns has played 21 games for the Bombers since being taken in the 2002 rookie draft. No replacement has been named at this stage.

300 games - Shane Crawford, Hawthorn. Shane is set to become the 55th player in the history of the game to reach 300 games, and the sixth for the club to reach 300 games behind Michael Tuck (426 games), Leigh Matthews (332 games), Chris Langford (303 games), Don Scott (302 games) and Kelvin Moore(300 games). A full list of 300-game players can be found on page 548 of AFL 2008, with the exception of Brad Johnson, who reached the mark earlier this year.

AUGUST 7, KICK AROUND AUSTRALIA

All Australians are being encouraged to pick up a football and Kick Around Australia on Thursday, August 7 – the day that marks 150 years since the first recorded game of Australian Football was played. Kick Around Australia Day will provide an opportunity for all Australians to join in the celebrations and wear their football colours or bring a footy to work or school and have a kick. Australian Football 150 Years Ambassador, Kevin Sheedy said the event would be another opportunity for all supporters to celebrate Australian Football. ""I encourage all Australians – students, families and workers across the country - to get involved in the Kick Around Australia Day festivities by having a kick wherever they are on the day,"" Sheedy said. School students will be taking part in activities including, wearing their footy colours to school, competing in kicking and handballing competitions and completing football themed lessons.
