More than 1500 people – including a large number of Essendon players and staff - took part in the 24-hour event at Windy Hill, making it one of the largest of its kind in Victoria. It is the second time the event has been staged at Windy Hill.
Essendon Premiership player Adam Ramanauskas played a lead role in helping organise the event which raised over $200,000 for the Cancer Council to help fund cancer research, education and patient support programs.
""It is really pleasing to see an event like this take hold at Windy Hill and raise important funds for our charity partner, the Cancer Council of Victoria. The local community provided terrific support and everyone involved should be congratulated,"" Essendon General Manager - Media and Community Simon Matthews said.
""This is the first of three major events we run in partnership with the Cancer Council. The Call to Arms campaign will be staged mid-year and our Clash for Cancer game against Melbourne will be played in Round 18. The Club helped to raise about $500,000 for the Cancer Council last year and we hope that we can go past that number this year.""
The highest team fundraiser for the event went to the 'Brumby's Babes' team which raised $43,000. The highest individual fundraiser was Lucy Ramanauskas (Adam's sister) who raised over $10,000.
