The hard work is well and truly underway in the build up to next season with another tough and grueling training session this morning.

It might be just his second week at the helm, but Essendon Coach James Hird said the playing group is already responding well to his education philosophy.

“We’ve had a lot of intense teaching sessions already. In the two weeks that we’ve been going they’ve already learned a lot and they’ve already shown a willingness to play the style of footy we want them to play,” Hird said

“Everything we do is about improvement and hard work. Football is not rocket science, it’s about working hard and working on your defensive side and attacking side of your game and we need to get both sides up to scratch.”

With only four players training in the recovery group, Hird said the list is in great shape for this time of the year

“I’m very happy, they’ve come back very well,” he said.

“I think that every team can work harder and get fitter. We’ve got a young group that’s in a development mode in terms of their fitness and they will get fitter over the next 14 or 15 weeks.”
