Following North Melbourne’s decision to activate its compensation national draft selection, Essendon’s draft selections in this year’s NAB AFL Draft have become picks number 8, 31, 48, 65.

North Melbourne today notified the AFL that they had elected to activate its end of round one compensation national draft selection at the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, to be held on Thursday November 18.

Clubs which had received compensation draft selections in return for having had an uncontracted player elect to join the newly-formed Gold Coast Football Club, or clubs which had traded for a compensation selection in the recent AFL exchange period, had until 2pm today to decide whether to activate those selections for this year’s draft.

North Melbourne, which traded to receive an end of round one compensation selection from Hawthorn (for the loss of Campbell Brown to the Gold Coast Suns), as part of the exchange for David Hale, was the only club to elect to activate a selection for this year’s national draft.

The compensation selection for North Melbourne will now be activated after round one, after selection 26 already assigned to West Coast at the end of round one, in front of selection 27 previously assigned to the Brisbane Lions. Please note that the final trade order will not be confirmed until club lists are finalised on Wednesday November 10.

The following clubs today elected not to activate their compensation selections, which can be used in any year covering the 2011-2014 drafts:
Gold Coast Suns – mid round one selection (received from the Geelong Cats in a trade, after compensation for the loss of Gary Ablett).
Geelong Cats – end round one selection (compensation for the loss of Gary Ablett).
Brisbane Lions – end round one selection (compensation for the loss of Michael Rischitelli).
Richmond – end round one selection (received from the Adelaide Crows in a trade, after compensation for the loss of Nathan Bock).
Brisbane Lions – end round one selection (received from the Western Bulldogs in a trade, after compensation for the loss of Jarrod Habrow).
Gold Coast Suns – end round one selection (received from the Brisbane Lions in a trade, after compensation for the loss of Jared Brennan).
Gold Coast Suns – round two selection (received from Port Adelaide in a trade, after compensation for the loss of Nathan Krakouer).
West Coast – round three selection (received from Collingwood in a trade, after compensation for the loss of Josh Fraser).

For any of the above eight selections to be activated for any of the years 2011-2014 in the NAB AFL Draft of that particular year, the respective club will be required to notify the AFL of its intention to use the selection by the last Tuesday of that particular year, prior to the start of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

The club has the right to on-trade its compensation selection to another club.

If the club on-trades its compensation selection to another club, the selection may be used in that year's NAB AFL Draft Selection meeting, or in any other year up to the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.
