Essendon is continuing to monitor the list of out of contract stars with the AFL free agency period kicking off on Monday October 1.

Essendon chief executive Ian Robson said the next few months provided a chance for all clubs in the league to make important list management decisions.

“We have a six month playing season and a two and a half month recruitment season,” Robson said.

”There is a trading period which is the first of four free agency periods that go all the way through to December the 11th when the rookie draft is held.

""From Monday any club that was looking to secure a restricted or unrestricted free agent is able to transact that business.”

Robson said the contract status of Saints star Brendon Goddard was being monitored by the Bombers.

“There is a conversation happening between Brendon Goddard and the St. Kilda Football Club,” Robson said.

“It is certainly fair to say that we are an interested spectator in that conversation but at the moment that is where it rests.”

Assistant coach Simon Goodwin last week revealed the club would be looking to develop the club’s midfield group during the upcoming free agency period.
