Andrew Welsh is optimistic about the Bombers’ chances ahead of a blockbuster Anzac Day match against an in-form Collingwood outfit.
Despite Essendon's poor performance in the west last week, Welsh is confident that the Bombers’ history of producing on the big stage will continue on Sunday.
“We feel we match up pretty well against Collingwood,” he said to Bomber.tv.
“We’ve got a couple of experienced guys coming back in this week which also helps on such a big occasion.
“Being a big club like Essendon we’re pretty lucky that we get to play in front of big crowds and on big occasions most of the time and I think that will help us this week.”
“Coming back from Perth was tough and it gave us a lot of time to reflect,” Welsh said.
“We realised that it wasn’t our style of footy that we play and we’ve been trained and taught to play, so it was disappointing.
“We had our review on Monday and we really did move on from there and we’ve implemented stuff through our training this week that we’re going to take into Collingwood.
“We’ve come off a nine day break so it’s been a good opportunity to get some extra training into us and we’ve had a solid week and a couple of days to freshen up and we’re ready to go Sunday.“
The final 22 is set to be finalised following the team’s open training session at Windy Hill tomorrow, with Mark McVeigh, Angus Monfries and Brent Stanton hopeful of returning to the side.
“We’ve got the final training session tomorrow morning and those guys will know then,” Welsh said.
“Everyone is eager to get out there for Anzac day but there’ll be a few tests before the final side comes out.
