Essendon spearhead, Scott Lucas, is well on the road to recovery after injuring his posterior cruciate ligament against North Melbourne in Round 1.

According to Essendon team manager, David Calthorpe, Lucas is already one month ahead of his projected recovery schedule.

“It is a positive that he is already tracking well ahead of schedule”, Calthorpe said.

“We are really pleased that his recovery has come along so quickly but, that being said, he is on the long-term injury list. As a result, he is still going to have to serve the full ten weeks.

“The timing obviously fits with our policy so far in which we bring guys back through the VFL. Given the injury that Scott has had, he may have to play a game there.”

Lucas is expected to be available for the Round 10 clash with Adelaide.

In other injury news, Tom Hislop is likely to play for Bendigo this weekend having recovered from a wrist injury. Courtenay Dempsey may also play, should he pass fitness tests throughout the week.

Scott Gumbleton is expected to be rested for one more week after recovering well from a hamstring injury. He is likely to play for Bendigo in their following match against Frankston.

Meanwhile, Andrew Lee underwent a shoulder reconstruction last week following an incident in the VFL. It is not yet clear when he will be available to resume playing.
