What some of the Essendon fans had to say:

""Just getting Courtney onto the park was an achievement of mammoth proportion when so many had given up on him. Let's hope that Sheeds' judgement of the big guy can be vindicated in 2006 and beyond,"" Terry Murphy.

""Did alright for a person who was not meant to play football ever again. Johns needs time to develop, as he is recovering from his hip injury. Needs a full pre-season to improve his fitness. A real project player who might fill a vacant forward position in the future,"" Brian Knight.

""Finally the long awaited debut eventuated and he showed positive signs. He is a big strong player who needs game time to adapt to the tempo of the game. Another solid injury free pre-season should benefit Courtney and the team should benefit from his versatility in 2006,"" Paul Fisher.

""Raw potential, not shown in the few senior games he managed at end of year - needs much more polishing of skills to see if he can make it, persistence and courage to be admired but not enough to hold place in team - interesting to see what his pre-season is like,"" Michael Leung.

""After so long on the sidelines, it's hard to judge where Courtney is at - but now that he's made his debut, the pressure to get there is gone, and he can concentrate on getting his fitness up to AFL level, and start learning how to play again - people forget he's only played about half a dozen games in two years - as someone who would have been a first-round draft pick had he not been injured, Courtney will be a huge plus in 2006,"" Michael Wyres.
