In a close week of voting in Champions of Essendon - Michael Long was thewinner of group three. Long was one of the most exciting players of themodern era - he had incredible pace and unbelievable skills with both handand foot. The recently retired Long played 190 games with Essendon and wonthe Norm-Smith Medal in 1993. Long finished ahead of Reg Burgess and KenFletcher. Burgess and Fletcher will now return to the nominee pool whileJoe Misiti has been omitted.

Burgess played 124 games with the Bombers and won the best and fairest in1957 and 1960. Burgess was a superb wingman and centreman - fast moving,high marking and seldom beaten. Fletcher played 264 games for the Bombersduring 1967 and 1980 and won the best and fairest in 1978. He started atfull back before becoming a fine wingman with great pace and a good commandof skills. He later graduated to just about every position on the groundbut eventually to the half back flank.
