Bendigo Bombers’ general manager Paul Barnard commended Doering on winning the best and fairest award and said he was a worthy winner. ""Jordan won the Tasmania Devils best and fairest award last year, so he has actually won back to back best and fairest awards, but for two different clubs. So it is a terrific effort.
""We were extremely happy to get him across from Tasmania at the end of last year, given that he is a Bendigo boy. He has been nothing short of sensational for us in both leadership and on-field performances. He is definitely a worthy winner,"" Barnard said.
Doering has played the majority of the season through the mid-field and also spent time at half-back. Fellow mid-fielder and club captain Nick Carter came runner-up to Doering. ""Nick has won the best and fairest award for the past two years (Bendigo Diggers (2002) and Bendigo Bombers (2003)), so to run second is an outstanding achievement and reflective of his input into the football club.""
Ted Richards was in second place behind Doering after Round 17, but didn’t poll another vote for Bendigo because he was elevated. ""Teddy was polling extremely well until he went and played seniors, which we have no qualms about that – that is the whole idea of the alliance,"" Barney said.
