Essendon Football Club is proud to celebrate the AFL's Women's Round this week.
The round acknowledges the valuable contribution of women to Australia’s game and focuses on recognising and developing female leadership across all levels of the Australian football industry, from community to the elite.

Women make up a large number of the audience of AFL games and memberships and there are many of them working in the football industry.

At the Essendon Football Club, one third of the 102 employee base is female. Their roles within the club range from marketing and events to sports science and physiotherapy.

The Women’s Round will be celebrated through a variety of events, most occurring around the weekend’s matches. This Friday will host the AFL Women’s Industry Luncheon where exceptional women in the AFL will be celebrated. Nominations for the Essendon Football Club’s Woman of the Year award will also be named.

Ahead of Essendon’s clash against Geelong on Friday night, Essendon Women’s Network and Nine Lives Geelong will be hosting a prestigious function celebrating the achievements of women in football, with Felicity Harley and Linda Dessau presenting the pre-match function.

For the game and industry to grow, the recognition of these women and their hard work is very important. The AFL Women’s Round is a great way to celebrate, congratulate and commemorate the women of the game.

Each day this week, essendonfc.com.au will specifically profile a woman working at the club in various roles and positions.
