Home or abroad – the mantra doesn’t change.
That’s the message from Essendon Coach John Worsfold ahead of the Bombers trip to Adelaide to take on the Crows.
Worsfold told Bomber Radio the side is aiming to bring the same level of intensity every week, regardless of the circumstances.
“We’re aiming to become a very consistent team … we expect the same level of effort and consistency week in and week out,” he said.
“So travel, playing good teams, playing average teams, teams out of form, the weather – we’re saying that shouldn’t come into our thinking.
“What we’re focusing on is becoming the great team we want to become.
“This week has been about getting the team ready to play the style of footy we want to play – we’ve got a lot of work to go to get that perfect – but that’s always been the call.”
The Bombers welcome back Josh Green for the first time since round one and Conor McKenna has earned his first call-up of the season.
The side will be looking to rebound after a loss to Carlton last week.
“We had a look at a couple of things we didn’t do that well from the weekend, but we also showed them clips where we did the stuff we were aiming to do,” Worsfold said.
“We’re not going to keep showing the poor stuff, but we are accountable to it.
“We definitely show players why we didn’t move the ball the way we wanted to and we challenge them on what their mindset was.
“That was certainly one of our games where as a group our intensity levels weren't as high as they had been.
“But that’s not unusual throughout an AFL season – I’ve never seen a team go through a season without having a few weeks where they’re not quite at their best and if you cop a team that is really up and about it can hurt you.”
