Fresh from signing a new two-year deal, big man Tom Bellchambers hopes to repay the faith the club has shown in him since he was recruited in the 2007 pre-season draft.

The 24-year-old turned his back on a number of lucrative offers from opposition clubs in order to stay at Essendon.

“I had a few offers from other clubs and you do need to look at all of your options when it comes to that kind of thing, but for me it was a pretty easy decision to stay,” Bellchambers told BomberTV.

“Loyalty is a big thing for me and the club has shown a lot of faith in me.

“By re-signing at the club, hopefully I can repay a little bit of that faith back that has been shown in me.”

Bellchambers booted 28 goals from 18 matches in 2013, his best return in his six seasons wearing the red and black.

The 202cm versatile utility said he was looking forward to partnering with Patrick Ryder to provide a dominant duo in the ruck over the next few seasons.

“I’m 24 years old now and hopefully I am coming into the prime time of my career,” he said.

“I see myself and Paddy Ryder forging a really good relationship in the ruck and up forward.

“At the moment I am just really looking forward to getting down to it next year.”

Bellchambers said he would continue to look at improving his game as a forward to further develop himself as a more rounded AFL footballer.

“Over the last year or two I have worked a lot with Matty Egan as the forward line coach and I think that part of my game has to continue to develop if I want to take the next step.”

He admits negotiations on a new deal dragged on longer than he would have preferred but it was an important life decision he faced.

“It is very pleasing to get the deal done, obviously it dragged on a little bit longer than I would have like,” he said.

“I sat down with my family, my girlfriend and a few other important people to me and I was able to come to the decision to stay at Essendon which is really pleasing.”
