The winners of Essendon’s Regional Multicultural Primary Schools Cup will represent the club at the upcoming AFL State Level Competition in October.
The Multicultural Primary Schools Cup was held in back in August. The tournament is played using AFL 9’s rules, leading to a fast pace highly entertaining game for youth. The event was run in conjunction with SEDA students and the assistance of Essendon Multicultural Development Officer Salim Mahazi. The winners were Our Lady’s Primary School from Craigieburn and St Matthews Primary School in Fawkner.
In October, Essendon’s representative team will compete against other schools and their respective clubs including Collingwood, Melbourne, Carlton, Richmond, North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs.
Throughout the year, students from more than 300 schools participated in state-based football carnivals and had the opportunity to meet the Multicultural Ambassadors from the AFL with sessions about the importance of diversity and working together in the community.
The Australia Post Multicultural Primary Schools Cup will be held on Wednesday 23 October.
