Senior Bombers push for recall
A number of senior players have staked their claims for selection ahead of Essendon’s Round 6 match against GWS at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Tayte Pears, Leroy Jetta, Nathan Lovett-Murray and Jake Melksham all continue to push for a senior recall after strong performances in the VFL on the weekend.
Development coach Paul Corrigan praised the performance of all the club’s experienced players who played in the win against North Ballarat.
“You would think that they would be pretty close, their performance on the weekend was really good,” Corrigan told BomberTV.
“It’s just really good to see that these guys are continually putting pressure on the guys up in the seniors.”
“That is what you want from a healthy list and a club point of view.”
Lovett-Murray and Melksham provided strong bodies through the middle of the field setting Jetta up to use the ball heading inside 50.
The livewire's evasive skills were at their peak as he baulked and side stepped opponents at will.
Defender Tayte Pears also looked to move extremely well collecting plenty of the ball out of defence.
Corrigan said the performance of Pears was something for all Bomber fans to be excited about.
“Pearsy was fantastic, the games that he has played at VFL level this year he has just been super for us from a leadership point of view,” he said.
“He could have been quiet disappointed missing out on ANZAC Day but the way he came back and adapted himself to the game was fully professional and he played really well.”
Jason Ashby and Will Hams are two youngsters than continue to impress with both players receiving plaudits form Corrigan.
“Jason Ashby was really good on the weekend, he has floated from half back and gone through the midfield now and he is really relishing in that midfield role,” he said.
“Will Hams has really come on as well, he is performing really well inside and outside on the wing.”
