Essendon defender Jake Carlisle remains a chance to take on GWS on Saturday afternoon after being cleared of serious damage to his ankle.

Carlisle, currently in a moon boot to help bear the weight on his ankle, is expected to take part in training later in the week in a bid to prove his fitness for the match against the Giants.

“We saw Jake roll his ankle against Collingwood, he has had some tests this morning and is progressing well,” Football Operations manager Steve Alessio said.

“He will be off his feet for the next couple of days but then look to test it out later in the week.”

“He may even put his hand up for the GWS match this weekend.”

Key pair Michael Hurley (ankle) and Dustin Fletcher (groin soreness) are expected to push their claims for selection after both missing the ANZAC Day match.

"They are also hoping to put their hands up for selection,” Alessio said.

"Both of them will be training during the week and then re-assess where their injuries are at later on in the week before the GWS game."

In a further boost for the Bombers, Nick Kommer will be available for selection after serving his two-week sanction for rough conduct against Fremantle big man Kepler Bradley in Round 3.

Alessio also confirmed first round draft selection Joe Daniher was always scheduled to miss the club’s VFL match against North Ballarat on Saturday afternoon as part of the club’s management of its younger players.
