As a new year dawns, so does the excitement for Essendon fans, with plenty for the red and black faithful to look forward to in 2014.

Premiership winning coach Mark Thompson is in charge of the red and black this season and will be reunited with the club’s biggest off-season recruit, Paul Chapman.

Chapman is just one of many fresh faces at the club this season with the addition of Shaun Edwards and Kurt Aylett from GWS along with five new recruits from the national and rookie draft.

In round one veteran Dustin Fletcher is set to overtake new board member Simon Madden’s all time games record for the club when he lines up for his 379th game.

The traditional ANZAC Day clash against Collingwood will be extra special as it is the 20th edition of the blockbuster at the MCG.

With Stewart Crameri and Scott Gumbleton leaving the club during the trade period there is no better time for Joe Daniher to step up.

Daniher has already started his pre-season in stunning form and will be presented with more opportunities at senior level in 2014.

In 2013 the club recorded its most wins in a season since 2001 by captain Jobe Watson, Crichton Medalist Brendon Goddard as well as young duo David Zaharakis and Dyson Heppell.

The tally of 14 victories will be a base for the team to improve upon heading into the 2014 home and away season.

As well as fresh faces on the field there are a number among the coaching ranks that are set to assist the players with their continual development.

The club has added former Melbourne and Adelaide senior coach Neil Craig to the role of Head of Coaching Development and Strategy.

Further premiership success has been added to the coaching line up with Norwood premiership winning coach Nathan Bassett joining the club as an assistant coach.

The club has also made the move to a brand new administration and training base with the True Value Solar Centre providing players, coaches and staff with the best working facilities in the competition.

With plenty of great things happening for the club both on and off the field it is an exciting time for any Bombers fan to get on board for 2014.
