Essendon captain Jobe Watson is hopeful of lining up for the Bombers round two NAB Cup clash against Richmond next Saturday night in Wangaratta.

Watson injured his lateral ligament during pre-season training three weeks ago but is expecting to line up against the Tigers.

“I would be really keen to play, we probably have only got two games left before the Adelaide game,” Watson told Bomber TV.

“I think it is pretty important to try and get two games in so I will be pushing up to play in that game.”

Watson said he feels his recovery from the injury is going as well as it could.

“The knee feels really good and the body feels really good.”

“I have been able to do a lot of leg work on it because it was a lateral ligament so as long as I kept straight lines for those early few days then it was fine.”

“Now I am starting to use my agility and things like that and the load that is going through it is feeling good, it’s handling that work pretty well.”’

It is expected Ben Howlett (back) and David Zaharakis (quad) will join Watson in returning from injury to take on Richmond.
