Aylett joined the Bombers from Greater Western Sydney along with teammate Shaun Edwards in exchange for pick 48 during the recent trade period.
The 21-year-old said he was excited when he found out that he would be lining up in the red and black in 2014.
“I was overseas in the Cook Island with my girlfriend and I got an email to say there had been a bit of negotiation going on,” Aylett said.
“I am absolutely rapt to have had it done and I could relax for a few weeks and know I was coming back to be a Bomber.”
The athletic halfback is yet to meet Mark Thompson but has been in contact with his new coach.
“He left me a voicemail, he has headed overseas so I didn’t want to bother him but he left a lovely voicemail on my phone,” he said.
“I was overseas at the time so now I look forward to meeting him and learning under him.”
He revealed he has also received messages from a number of players including midfielder Brent Stanton.
“I absolutely loved my time up in Sydney but it is a good chance for a new opportunity and new challenge so now I just can not wait until pre-season.”
“Shaun is a terrific person, I had a great relationship with him and he is a country boy himself so we can not wait to get into a big pre-season.”
Aylett said he was excited about continuing to develop his game during his third season on an AFL list.
“I like to break the lines, take the game on so I hope to develop a lot of areas of my game at the moment so I am really looking forward to learning off the older players at the club,” he said.
“There are a lot more experienced players at a club like Essendon and to learn under them and to learn how fit you have to be will be great.”
“They are going to be terrific mentors as will the younger guys who have already been here for a couple of years.”
