Essendon captain Jobe Watson is confident his side will continue a recent run of strong form to finish off the season strongly.
The Bombers currently sit in seventh position on the ladder having won four of their last five matches.
Watson said the standards set by the playing group would ensure there was no end of season form slump as has been the case in recent seasons.
“There has been some good signs and I don’t feel there is going to be a let off, I feel as though the players wont accept it,” Watson said.
“There is still almost a quarter of the season to go so it is a big chunk of football ahead of us still.”
“It is nice at this stage to be playing with consistency but we understand there is still a long way to go.”
“We need to play at a level that we feel is going to give us an opportunity to be successful this year.”
Watson believes the club is primed for its first finals campaign since 2011.
“The group is starting to realise what it takes to be successful and I think there is an edge with the playing group,” he said.
“Last year it was very disappointing to have something like a finals campaign taken away from you and there is a feeling among the players that we don’t want that happening two years in a row.”
The Bombers captain is confident his side is heading in the right direction with the standards being set around the club.
“We are trying to develop some consistency among the playing group,” Watson said.
“The group has given itself the opportunity to control its own destiny and we are starting to challenge each other more.”
“We are hoping by doing that it leads to better results.”
