A disappointing loss last weekend gives the Bombers an opportunity to rebound against Adelaide this Saturday night at Etihad Stadium.
All signs point to a fiery clash, with both sides sitting on equal points fighting to climb back into the top eight.
We bring you the all-important burning questions surrounding the round 14 clash.
Can Zacka continue his red-hot form?
David Zaharakis has been in scintillating form of late, gathering 65 disposals and six goals in the last two games alone. The 24-year-old plays his 100th game this weekend and will need to continue his run of hot form to get the Bombers over the line. Obviously with the absence of Jobe Watson in the team, Zaharakis’ leadership and direction around the contest was something he demonstrated on the weekend and needs to emulate against the Crows. If he his to fire it could be three-in-a-row 30 plus disposal games with two or more goals.
Which Bomber forward stands up?
It was a pretty slim scoring sheet last weekend for the Essendon forwards, despite winning the inside 50 count 69-36. Joe Daniher, Brendon Goddard and Tom Bellchambers all had several shots on goal that they would love to have again. Composure in front of goal will be a key focus for the Bombers key forwards this weekend against the Crows. It’s crucial at least one, if not more stand up and nail their shots on goal to apply important scoreboard pressure early.
Big one for BJ?
Brendon Goddard has averaged a handy 23.5 disposals in 14 matches against the Crows over his career, and doesn’t mind playing footy under the roof at Docklands. He was great against the Demons last weekend as stand in skipper picking up 31 disposals. Can we expect another big one form the ever-reliable Goddard against Adelaide Saturday night?
How will the Dons defence clip the Crows’ wings?
Adelaide’s forward line has developed into a dangerous prodigy in recent weeks. Taylor Walker has returned from an ACL injury suffered in 2013 as well as Josh Jenkins and James Podsiadly looking settled. The sideshow act in Eddie Betts took to the main stage booting three goals in the Crows win over the Roos, including an amazing finish from the boundary that will almost certainly win goal-of-the-year. It’s going to be a big job to stop the firepower of the Crows and should prove an entertaining contest within the match.
Adelaide travel sickness?
It has been well reported that Adelaide and Port Adelaide now share, arguably, the best ground in the country in the redeveloped Adelaide Oval. Each week the capacity of over 53,500 has been stretched and both sides look to have found a confortable new home. On the back of Adelaide’s great performance last week at home against North Melbourne, it will be challenge to make the trip east to the Bomber fortress in Etihad Stadium. It is the first time the Crows have faced the Bombers at the Stadium in five years. A massive Essendon crowd is once again expected under the roof as the fans paint the stands red and black. So get along Bomber fans and cheer the boys, and make it as tough as possible for the traveling Crows.
