It has been a big week for young Bomber Kyle Langford, this time last Thursday he was not on a senior list, was 17 years old and could not legally drive.

The 18-year-old is now one of the brightest young prospects on Essendon’s senior list and can drive himself to training after getting his licence on Monday.

At 7.35pm he became a Bomber, being taken by the club at selection 17 in the National Draft.

The youngster from Eltham did not have a preferred club but was pleased when list manager Adrian Dodoro read out his identification number and name.

“I had no idea I was coming to Essendon so once that pick came and my name was called out, I was stoked,” he said.

“It is only a half an hour drive and I get to stay in Melbourne so mum was pretty happy.”

“I could not have been happier to come here.”

Langford celebrated his 18th birthday on Monday in doing so getting his drivers licence.

“It was a pretty nervous sleep on Sunday night but I woke up and got my licence so I drove here.”

“So it is all coming together pretty well at the moment.”

An athletic forward with the versatility to move into the midfield or down back he is set to provide important flexibility to the club’s list.

Langford said he was focussing on beginning his training program before the Christmas break and had not set too many expectations for his first season on an AFL list.

“I probably need to put on some weight and get fit, my main goal is to put on a little bit of weight,” he said.

“I will just work really hard and see how I go.”
