Recently retired Bomber Brent Stanton will join arch rival Carlton as a development coach.

The former Essendon midfielder played 255 games over his 14-year career, and spent the majority of this season playing in the VFL. 

Stanton will be joined in the development coaching ranks at the Blues by Jason Davenport, who has most recently been the senior coach for North Shore Seagulls in the Geelong Football League.

Davenport spent two years on Geelong's rookie and senior lists, before playing 28 games for Port Adelaide between 2009 and 2011. 

Carlton head of football Andrew McKay said the two will work closely with VFL coach Josh Fraser.

"We're very pleased both Brent and Jason have joined our coaching ranks ahead of the 2018 season," McKay told Carlton's website. 

"They both have a considerable understanding of the demands of senior football and will add a different dimension to our improved development program."
