Midfielder Chris Heffernan has been traded to Melbourne in exchange for selection 12 in the National Draft. The deal was completed early this afternoon and Heffernan now joins Caracella as Bombers of 2002 that will wear different colors in 2003. Heffernan played 97 games for Essendon - 23 which came in 2002. He kicked 38 goals in his time with the club. He debuted for the Bombers in 1997 after being the number two selection in the 1996 National Draft.

Blake Caracella will play for the Brisbane Lions next season in a deal that will see Damian Cupido and Adam McPhee join the Bombers in 2003. Caracella was the pivotal player in a deal that saw Des Headland join Fremantle. Essendon has picked up two talented young players as a result of the deal - both were Rising Star nominations in 2001. Cupido is a small forward / midfielder while McPhee can play half forward / half back.
