Some of what the fans had to say:
“Showed a lot of promise and appears to be capable of playing at either end. A good prospect for the future.” David Warren
“I think Sam is going to be a good player. Has made a couple of skill errors but that is likely a nerves thing and with experience he will only improve.” David Sullivan
“Good young lad, reads the play very well and can take a good mark. Shows a lot of potential that we hope can be realised in 2003.” Michelle Gardiner
“Showed good composure when he finally got his chance. Best of the 00 draft so far. Looking forward to him building on that confidence and being a key part of the side in 03.” Ross Jones
“I have no doubt Sam is going to be a future leader of this club. He has already shown signs of behind a key position player with the credentials of playing at both ends of the field.” Glenn Currie
“Showed some skills when on the field, but not enough time to really comment. He looks to have good pace and hands, lets see if he can build on this next year.” Paul Hobbs
“I was very impressed with Sam he showed a lot of maturity in the games he played and was always calm. He has the potential to be a very dangerous forward player with his height and marking power he will cause a lot of damage in the forward line. He could also be handy down the back to help out Dustin Fletcher and the backline players. He will get plenty of opportunity next season to became a regular senior player.” Karole Prince
“In his 3 games, he has definitely shown that he will be a permanent fixture down at Windy Hill. His potential rewarded him with a finals game in just his 3rd game. Looks to be in the Solomon mould.” Ronny Lerner
THE WASH UP
Essendon supporters were very impressed with the progress of Sam Hunt in 2002 and think he will make a very good senior player in time. They felt he had good hands, was aggressive and could play at either end of the ground.
MARK HARVEY SAYS:
In terms of the progress he made pre-season and his application I would give him a nine out of 10. But he must understand that he still has another 20 – 30 % improvement in him if he is to develop into a regular senior player. He must learn to attack and run forward with the ball more. He is also a big strong boy who has to learn to use his bulk. Anyone who is 6.3 and can run has a future in the game – I think he does.
