""Essendon is a great club with a great history and I can't wait to play some good football. To play football with the likes of James Hird and Matthew Lloyd will be fantastic – they are the sort of players that make football great to watch and I'm sure having them around will really help my football,"" McPhee said.
McPhee was a part of a complicated three-way deal that saw Blake Caracella head to Brisbane and Des Headland join Fremantle. Damian Cupido also ended up with the Bombers.
McPhee - a strongly built 187cm half forward / half back – was taken at pick 39 by the Fremantle Dockers in the 2000 National Draft. He played 25 games with the Dockers but injury has dogged him in both years. Osteitis pubis caused him problems last season. However he showed enough in his first year to be nominated for the Rising Star award – many thought him the best young player that season behind Justin Koschitzke (St Kilda) and Daniel Kerr (West Coast).
Fit and in-form, McPhee will be a bonus for the Bombers. ""I haven't done a full pre-season yet so hopefully things will go to plan this time around. My osteitis feels pretty good at the moment. I haven't done much running and have concentrated on building up the areas I need to so I have some support around that area,"" McPhee said.
""My contract was up at Fremantle and when I heard I could end up at Essendon I was very happy about it. This is a side that is a force in the competition and I really want to be a part of it.""
