Star Bomber Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti and his mother Jane McDonald have become Suncorp Super Netball club Melbourne Vixens’ first ever No.1 ticketholders.

McDonald first introduced netball to her son when he was a student at Tiwi College and the talented footballer quickly took to the game.

McDonald-Tipungwuti enjoyed it so much that he joined his school team upon moving to Victoria and his love of the sport continues to this day.

The brilliant goalkicker said he was proud to join his mum in promoting the game and growing participation at grassroots level.

“I love the sport and I want to promote (it) more...to build the game up to a standard (of coverage) which the girls deserve,’’ McDonald-Tipungwuti said.

“I’m really keen to get involved and start building and put it out there and get other AFL fans involved in netball, and hopefully I can do that and encourage young kids to play more netball at school.

“I’m really excited to get on board and help out with that.’’

Netball Victoria CEO Rosie King praised the new leading fans for their commitment to the club.

“We couldn’t think of a more suitable pair to join the netball family as the Melbourne Vixens’ inaugural No.1 ticketholders,” King said.

“The wider playing and coaching group agreed Anthony and Jane were a great fit for this role at the club, with their values and love for the game of netball clearly aligning with ours.”

The Vixens will kick off their season against the Queensland Firebirds at Melbourne Arena on May 2.
