Essendon is continuing ‘productive’ contract discussions with Jake Carlisle.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season.

“Negotiations continue with Jake and his manager,” General Manager of Football Operations Rob Kerr said.

“He’s clearly a player that is highly valued and those discussions have been quite productive.

“Our role is to make sure that we can convince Jake and sell the vision of what Essendon looks like in the future and why this is the best place for him to continue his football career.”

Kerr said the club was in a good position to retain the services of Carlisle who has shown his versatility throughout the season.

Carlisle restricted GWS forward Jeremy Cameron’s influence on the weekend after spending much of the first half of the season in the forward line.

The club is also is talks with veteran Brent Stanton and injured ruckman Tom Bellchambers.
