Essendon Football Club is pleased to announce Courtenay Dempsey will ‘Don the Sash’ again in 2016.
The highly talented 28 year-old has agreed to terms on a new one-year deal to remain at the Bombers.
Dempsey said a meeting with new Senior Coach, John Worsfold, left him excited about what season 2016 can bring.
“I’m really happy to have re-signed with the Essendon footy Club, I love living in Melbourne and playing in front of the big Bomber crowds each week,” Dempsey said.
“Spending time with ‘Woosha’ and talking to him about the role he sees me playing this season makes me really excited about what 2016 can bring for us as a team and a Club.
“Woosha has made it really clear what he expects from me this season, I’m excited about tackling this pre-season head on, and as a team I feel we have plenty to prove in 2016.”
Dempsey played 13 games in 2015, including a successful transition forward in the later stages of the season.
His standout performance of the season came in the narrow loss to the Gold Coast. Dempsey’s natural flair saw him win plenty of the ball and kick two crucial goals to keep the Bombers in the nail-biting contest.
List and Recruiting Manager, Adrian Dodoro, said Dempsey could continue his career in the Bombers forward line next season.
“Courtenay is an exceptional talent, he has speed, and he also proved he can kick goals, which is an area of our game that needs to be strengthened this season,” Dodoro said.
“Courtenay is really excited about continuing his career at the Club, and we look forward to seeing him carry his energy and hunger into the pre-season and the 2016 season.”
