Essendon fans expect Mark Alvey to improve significantly in 2005 with a full pre-season under his belt. Fans thought last season was very much a case of Alvey fully recovering from his knee reconstruction. Essendon fans hope that he – like good mate Dean Solomon – produces his best football in the second season after a serious knee injury.

What some of the Essendon fans had to say:

""Will hopefully step up to the mark in 2005. Deserves to be pardoned for a poor season due to his full knee reconstruction in 2003,"" Sonia Salera.

""Although he didn’t get much game time, the time he was on the ground, he used the ball well and was hard at the footy. It will be good to see him having a bit more game time in 2005,"" Laura Bianchi.

""I would have liked Mark Alvey to have done better this year. He looks like the player we need because he's fast and skilful but he needs to find consistancy. Hopefully he'll be better having recovered fully from his knee reconstruction,"" Christopher Bates.

""Hope to see him improve. Only saw a few moments of play from Mark which justified him being selected. Needs to make a significant improvement as there are too many other players vying for his position. The end of Merc and Joe might help him get on the ground,"" Amanda Kammerer.

""Mark has great skill let's hope with a full pre season we can see more goals from him and perhaps a midfield run now and then,"" David Beasley.

""Would be nice to see Mark get more of a senior opportunities next season. He is a great ball winner, has lots of pace and I feel he and McVeigh would be two of the best users of the ball in the club. Good luck for 05 when he is fitter, stronger and has more confidence in his knee,"" John Car.

""Was very disappointing. Hopefully will improve and show what the coaching panel saw in him. Has the ability to run but the question I have is why every kick a hospital kick,"" Frederick Borg.

""Mark showed glimpses of a promising young player this year. Needs a good work out over summer break and should concentrate on fitness and staying injury free. Hopefully he will attract the selectors eye and get some decent playing time,"" Julie Quirk.
