Bio:The brother of Essendon's Jackson, Merrett bears several of the same characteristics as the Bomber half-forward, bringing an elite burst of pace, classy ball use and a dose of X-factor. Merrett is considered one of the better users of the ball in the draft. A star junior cricketer, he hails from Cobden, making his senior Cobden debut at 16. He was consistent for Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.
List manager Adrian Dodoro says: He is a left footer who is quick and we think he will have an impact as soon as he has one good pre-season under his belt. We were keen to keep improving our midfield depth and he is different to what we have in our midfield as he is left sided and he has good speed.
