Essendon youngster Nick O’Brien will play his first game of the season after being named to replace injured captain Jobe Watson against the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

O’Brien has been selected for just his third game of his career after being included in the final 22 to face the Dogs.

The 20 year old has had a consistent season at VFL level in recent weeks taking on a defensive role in the midfield as well as across half forward.

He made a dream start to his career in his debut against Richmond in Round 22 last season kicking a goal with his first kick in AFL football.

The club will name its captain on game day.
