Matthew Leuenberger has spoken about his excitement of playing under new Essendon coach, John Worsfold.

The ruckman today met up with ‘Woosha’ at the True Value Solar Centre and said he can’t wait to get stuck into his first pre-season under the premiership winning coach.

“You’ve got John on who’s jumped on board, who’s proven,” Leuenberger said.

“I’ve heard nothing but good things about him, so the decision was pretty easy in the end, I’m looking forward to it.

“My body is feeling great so I’ll basically start day one with no setbacks, so I’ll be good to go."

Leuenberger revealed his desire to play more time in the ruck was also a major reason behind his move to Essendon.

“It was one of the driving reasons why I came here, it’s what I know,” Leuenberger said.

“I played the majority of this year as a forward, which is something I’m not used to, I’m a ruckman."

The 27 year-old said he was more than happy to leave the goal-kicking up to his teammates.

“You look at guys like Tom Bellchambers and Shaun McKernan they’ve proven they can play forward and be really influential.

“When I was in the ruck I felt I played well, but as a forward, yeah I think I’ll leave that to Joey (Joe Daniher).”
