New recruit Craig Bird has had his first day at the Essendon Football Club.
Joining the Bombers as a result of a three way deal during the trade period, Bird today took the time to tour his new facilities as well as meet the second to fourth year players.
“I’ve loved it. Just getting here and meeting everyone and familiarizing myself with the place,” said Bird
“It’s been good and everyone has been welcoming, so now I’m just looking forward to getting stuck into training.”
The 2012 Swans Premiership player had an injury interrupted 2015 and was only able to play in six senior games for the year.
Although he will once again be starting the year on a modified program, Bird is confident that he will be able to get his body right early in the 2016 season.
“It was a bit of a frustrating year last year, I had a couple of injuries. But I had surgery in the off season, so hopefully that’s sorted that all out,” said Bird
“I’m just in rehab at the moment, and just building up and hopefully get back out on the track in the next couple of weeks.
A tough inside midfielder, with an ability to win and clear the ball, Bird is excited to begin working with new teammates Jobe Watson and Dyson Heppell in order to establish Essendon’s midfield as one of the most dominant in the league.
“There’s a good midfield here and some good players with Jobe and Heppell.
“I’m looking forward to working with them and hopefully building a strong relationship.”
