Dyson Heppell is one of the leading candidates for this year’s Crichton Medal.

The 23 year old played all 22 matches and took over the Captaincy when Jobe Watson went down with injury midway through the season.

His 34 possession performance was instrumental in the Dons thrilling win over Hawthorn in round two and he was one of the side’s best on Anzac Day.

Underlining Heppell’s consistency was his ability to contribute even when the side was struggling.  He had 30 or more disposals when the team suffered big losses against the Western Bulldogs, St Kilda and Adelaide.

In Watson’s absence, Heppell took on extra leadership responsibilities and was given closer attention from the opposition.  He was tagged pretty much every week but more often than not he came out on top.

The former Gippsland Power player took out last season’s best and fairest and also made the All-Australian side.
