Essendon was looking to rebound from an Anzac Day defeat when it hosted the Gold Coast Suns in round six, 2011.

The fledgling club was in its infancy but the Bombers spared no mercy.

The Dons kicked 15 goals in the opening term breaking Hawthorn’s 30 year record.

Gold Coast responded in the second term, outscoring the Bombers five goals to three.

But after the major break, Essendon clicked back into gear.

A 79 point half time lead turned into 100 points as Kyle Reimers booted his sixth goal for the match.

The Dons kicked 13 goals to three in the second half.

Captain Jobe Watson was at his brilliant best with 35 touches and nine clearances.

Ben Howlett and Brent Stanton were also strong in the midfield and Tom Bellchambers dominated the hit outs.

Reimers kicked another two goals in the last quarter to finish with a career best eight goals.
