Matthew Lloyd has praised the communication skills of Essendon’s stand-in Coach Matthew Egan.
The Bombers all time leading goal-kicker has been back at the club this season helping the forwards with their goal kicking.
He said he’s been impressed by the way Egan goes about his coaching.
“I only really got to know him this year, but one thing he is, is a great communicator,” Lloyd said.
“All his backs – he has a fantastic relationship with.”
Egan will coach the remaining three games of the season as the club commences its search for a permanent replacement.
The former Geelong player has been coaching for the last seven seasons after injury brought a premature end to his playing career in 2009.
Egan joined the Bombers at the end of the 2011 season, after working as an Assistant Coach at the Cats.
He managed the Bombers forward line before taking control of the defence.
In recent seasons he has overseen the rise of Michael Hurley, Cale Hooker and Mark Baguley.
“He isn’t a ranter or a raver, he just explains in his strong way what he expects and demands of his defence, so he’s a real good people’s person,” Lloyd said.
“He manages people pretty well, he’s run training most of the year.
“Only 32 years of age, but he’s got a pretty experienced head on his shoulder.”
