Former Essendon player Mark Bolton will take on perhaps his greatest ever sporting challenge when he tackles the Melbourne Ironman this Sunday.
The long-time CEO of youth homelessness charity Ladder will take part in the ironman event, widely considered the ultimate test of an athlete. The event will see the former 124 AFL-gamer swim 3.8km in the ocean, bike ride 180km and run a 42.2km marathon.
Ladder is an independent non-profit organisation established in 2007 to tackle youth homelessness in Australia. Essendon skipper Jobe Watson is an ambassador for Ladder, and a number of Essendon players are annually involved in their social projects.
Bolton is undertaking the gruelling endurance event to fundraise for the charity, with a target of $10,000.
Essendon Football Club has financially pledged its support behind Bolton and the charity, and is encouraging Bomber fans to do the same.
