Several key Essendon players are nearing full fitness and could return this weekend.
Jake Carlisle has overcome an ankle problem he sustained in the final seconds of the match against Hawthorn a month ago.
“Jake’s doing very well,” Club Doctor Bruce Reid said.
“He’s fully training today and we expect him to play this week.”
David Myers could also be available.
The West Australian returned from a shoulder injury in the VFL against Williamstown earlier this month, but spent the second half on the bench with a knee problem.
“David Myers is fully over his shoulder reconstruction. He had a bit of ITB and he will play also this week” Dr Reid said.
Jake Melksham is over the hamstring injury he picked up leading in to the match against Melbourne two weeks ago.
Ben Howlett and Michael Hurley will be monitored after picking up minor knee problems in the match against Port Adelaide.
