Youngster Shaun Edwards is poised for a strong 2015 after an impressive performance in last week’s Indigenous All-Star game.
Edwards travelled alongside teammates Courtenay Dempsey and Jake Long to the AFL Players Association weeklong camp in Perth, before he and Long were selected to play in the All-Star team against the West Coast Eagles last Friday.
Continuing on from what has been his strongest pre-season to date, Edwards did not waste any time making his mark on the game combining with Gold Coast Suns youngster Jack Martin for the opening goal of the match.
Pleased with his performance, Edwards saw the game as a valuable test before the start of the season as well as a great opportunity to see how opposition players are shaping up.
“It’s always an exciting time when you get to play with all your mates,” Edwards said.
“I got to catch up with Paddy Ryder again, so I was picking his brain about what’s happening at Port Adelaide and with Michael Johnson from Fremantle, I spent a bit of time with him. I play a similar position, so I just picked his brain about his career.”
Players were also involved in several community-based activities, conducting various workshops across Western Australia and visiting Rottnest Island. Impressing coaches and his peers alike this pre-season, Edwards now turns his attention to the upcoming NAB Challenge series.
“Pre-season is going alright [and] I haven’t missed a session yet,” Edwards said.
“Hopefully I get to put the guernsey on down in Morwell, so it should be good.”
