Robinson will join the Bombers from his position as High Performance Manager at the Gold Coast SUNS after making the decision to return to Melbourne for family reasons.
Prior to his role at the SUNS, Robinson enjoyed four successful seasons at the Geelong Football Club after joining the Cats in late 2006 – including three Grand Final appearances and two Premierships.
Essendon General Manager of Football Operations Paul Hamilton said the club was delighted to have secured someone with Robinson’s experience.
“We are really pleased to secure someone of Dean’s calibre who is not only is elite in terms of his professional attributes but also from the experience he can provide from working at range of Australia’s professional sporting organisations,” Hamilton said.
“As a club, we want to be able to provide our players with the best possible opportunity at being successful and Dean will play an instrumental role developing our players’ bodies to the physical condition that will allow them to do that.”
Robinson said he was looking forward to an exciting new opportunity at the Bombers.
“I am really excited about the opportunity to work with a new team and group of players and playing a part in developing them to the condition that will allow Essendon to become a benchmark team in the competition,” Robinson said.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Gold Coast SUNS but in this case family must come first and I wish the club and its players every success in the future.”
Robinson’s breadth of experience also includes fitness roles at the Sydney Roosters, NSW Institute of Sport and Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.
