Essendon Football Club has this week been awarded the Victorian Multicultural Business Award (Marketing) at the Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence.
The award was presented by the Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship, Nick Kotsiras and recognized the club’s commitment to multicultural affairs and involvement in initiatives such as the Unity Cup, Multicultural Schools Program, Andrew Welsh Auskick and this year’s Falling for Sahara feature film.
The award also recognized the GLoBALL program and the way it has innovatively engaged participants to use sport as a vehicle for social cohesion in the wider Victorian community.
Essendon’s Multicultural Development Officer Kashif Bouns was also presented with a Service Delivery to Multicultural Victoria Award for his work in establishing the Pakistan Student’s Association in 2009.
Bouns was recognized for his community work in raising funds for disaster victims here in Australia and overseas as well as encouraging Pakistani students to become a part of the wider Australian community.
