Developed in partnership with the Australian Federal Police, the Unity Cup is an important vehicle for strengthening ties between culturally and linguistically diverse communities through a mutual appreciation of football.
In 2013 the Essendon Football Club is supporting three diverse teams – the Bombers All Stars, who are a largely Islamic side, the Hume Indigenous Bombers, born out of the Kangan Institute’s Indigenous Education Centre and the Bharat Bombers, an exciting new side that is made up of members of Melbourne’s Indian population.
The Bharart Bombers side (pictured), a key feature of Essendon’s growing Indian engagement activities, shocked the field by winning 2 matches and were extremely competitive in their 2 losing matches.
The side are enthusiastic about their chances in next year’s competition and are already planning a campaign to become fitter and stronger.
A competitive and highly skilled brand of football was displayed across the day, with the Bombers All Stars being crowned the Victorian Champions.
They, along with the Hume Indigenous Bombers, will advance into this Sunday’s (March 24) week two National Championships from 9.00am at JJ Holland Park, Kensington.
All Essendon members and supporters are encouraged to attend the competition and show their support for both sides.
