Essendon midfielder Brendon Goddard will pull on the famous red and black jumper for the first time in a home and away match this Friday night and the new recruit could not be more excited for the occasion.

Goddard said he was looking forward to running out for his first official game with the club when they face Adelaide in the season opener at AAMI Stadium.

“I am very honoured and humbled to be able to put on the red and black jumper,” Goddard told BomberTV

“At the end of the day it is another game of footy but it is a little bit strange and different the circumstances I am in with playing my first game for a footy club.

“Probably pre-game and the night before I will be a little bit nervous like always and a little bit anxious."

Essendon’s list is in a healthy position ahead of the Round 1 clash with only one player, Jason Winderlich (groin) unavailable for selection.

Goddard said his team had put in a strong preparation over the last few months and were in good shape heading into the first match of 2013.

“We have been preparing really well for Round 1 which is our main aim and there are a lot of guys that have got a lot of minutes under their belt which is the important thing,” he said.

“We are in a really good position to go over to Adelaide and hopefully challenge for the four points against what is a really good footy team.”

Essendon’s clash with the Adelaide Crows will kick off at 8.40pm Melbourne time.
