Essendon players spent the second morning of the 2015 Australia Post Community Camp running a super clinic for children in the Gisborne region.
Hundreds of kids from the local primary schools descended upon The Gardiner Reserve to spend time learning the skills of the game from the playing group.
Players were set up in stations to run the clinic in conjunction with the local Auskick organisers.
Ruckman Jonathan Giles said the players understood the influence they could have on young football fans.
“It has been great to get out amongst the community here in Gisborne and Sunbury and the kids are loving it running around in the sun and kicking the football around,” Giles said.
“We love getting out in the community and it is at grass roots level that it all starts for all the players.
“I loved playing football as a junior on the local country ovals so it is great to get back out here and see the kids really loving having a kick.”
Giles said he had enjoyed working with different levels of footballers throughout the region over the last few days.
“We have worked with a wide variety of ages as you can see today we have the young kids out who are focusing on the basics and just want a footy in there hand,” he said.
“The older group yesterday was more engaged with game plan, structures and the little things like that.”
The players spent their afternoon visiting schools in the local community to run further clinics and provide presentations on leadership and healthy eating.
