Discussions between Essendon and St Kilda on the opening day of the trade period have so far failed to resolve the impasse over Jake Carlisle.
The Bombers have stated their desire to land the Saints first pick for the versatile 23 year old, but the parties are yet to reach an agreement.
“Their position hasn’t changed, they’re not prepared to do pick five, which we think is a fair deal,” List and Recruiting Manager Adrian Dodoro said.
“They really don’t have an offer on the table for Jake at the moment, they’re saying that they’re working on a few things but to this point there is no offer.”
Carlisle has played 85 games for the Dons since making his debut in 2010.
“We think it’s fair (pick five), it gets the deal done. At the moment we don’t have anything else that gets the deal done,” Dodoro said.
“The ball is in their court. He’s a required player and they want him. He wants to get there … clearly their second pick won’t do it.
“We would think their first round selection would be a fair deal, but at the end of the day they’ve got to want to come to the party.”
Gary Buckenara has spent the last 15 years helping build the Hawthorn list that has achieved so much success.
He told the Herald Sun a swap for pick five would be a good result for both clubs.
“St Kilda gain a young key position player and Essendon get the opportunity of a pick five,” he said.
“Top ten picks are very, very valuable so I understand St Kilda saying pick five is too much but for me, to get a player of Carlisle’s ability is a win for them in a critical positional need and Essendon get in to the draft with picks four and five.
“For me it’s win-win.”
