Four-time Essendon Premiership-winning coach Kevin Sheedy continues to shape Essendon’s list long after his reign.

Spending over 25 years at the helm, Sheedy’s recruiting philosophies have left a lasting impression on current List and Recruiting Manager Adrian Dodoro.

“Sheeds is, and will always be the best mentor I’ve ever had in football- he’s taught me a hell of a lot,” Dodoro told AFL.com.au.

“I remember sitting in the coaches box for a number of years, and his eye for talent was amazing.

“His eye for the small things were really important and his attention to detail was amazing.”

With the 2015 AFL National Draft quickly approaching, Dodoro admitted he continues to adopt similar recruiting strategies that of Sheedy.

“He (Sheedy) had the ability to put teams together, teams that would challenge for premierships- and that was one thing that I certainly wanted to study off him.

“We haven’t had that obvious success for a while, but that’s still the plan.”

Despite a sub-par 2015, Dodoro said success could be on the horizon following this year’s draft.

“You look at the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle and how it comes together,” he said.

“There’s 18 other clubs in the competition, and everyone is fighting for a bit of the jigsaw puzzle.”

“There’s no limitations on where we can get to next year.”
